September 27, 2010: David Beckmann
David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World and the 2010 World Food Prize Laureate, will be with us to discuss Exodus from Hunger: We Are Called to Change the Politics of Hunger, set for release in October. Beckmann lays out a clear and workable plan for effectively using political channels to combat hunger, while putting a human face on the problem by sharing stories of people who are, quite simply, hungry every day.
October 25, 2010: Ben Daniel
Presbyterian pastor Ben Daniel will join us to discuss the controversial issues that surround undocumented migration in the United States. In his new book, Neighbor: Christian Encounters with “Illegal” Immigrants, Daniel provides a Christian case for embracing undocumented immigrants using a blend of travel narrative, interviews, theological insight, and biblical scholarship. Numerous real-life stories are featured, along with discussion questions.
November 29, 2010: Elise Erikson Barrett
United Methodist pastor Elise Erikson Barrett will be here to talk about What Was Lost: A Christian Journey through Miscarriage. In her book, Barrett draws on her own painful experiences, as well as on interviews with others who have experienced the same loss, in an effort to help women grieve and, in time, to think theologically about pregnancy loss. Barrett also offers practical advice about breaking the news to others, coping with insensitive comments, and grieving what is often a private loss.
